DESIGNED FOR YOUR FIRST STEP01 — 06
01 / THE ESSENTIALS

One wallet.
More possibility.

Lace is a self-custody wallet designed for Cardano. It gives you a place to manage ADA and other supported assets, explore decentralized applications, and take part in the wider Cardano ecosystem. “Self-custody” means you—not a service—hold the secret recovery phrase that controls access to your wallet. That freedom is powerful, and it comes with a responsibility: protect your phrase as carefully as you would a key to your home.

This guide walks through the essentials in plain language. Features and screens can change as the product evolves, so rely on the current instructions presented by Lace whenever you set up or use your wallet.

02 / GETTING STARTED

Start simple.
Stay in control.

Take your time through these first steps. A careful setup now makes every future interaction easier.

01↗

Choose the official source

Find Lace through its official website or a verified browser extension listing. Check the publisher and address before installing. Avoid sponsored lookalikes, unsolicited links, and downloads shared in private messages.

02✳

Create your wallet

Open the extension and follow the on-screen setup. Choose a strong, unique wallet password on your own device. This password helps protect local access; it is not a substitute for your recovery phrase.

Understand recovery →
03⌁

Back up your phrase

Write down the recovery phrase in the exact order shown. Check every word, then store the paper somewhere private and secure. Never photograph it, upload it, or share it with anyone.

Fund with care

To receive ADA, copy your wallet's receive address and verify that it is for the Cardano network. Send a small test amount first, confirm it arrives, then proceed with any larger transfer.

03 / EVERYDAY USE

Make every move
deliberate.

✳

For your first transaction, keep it small. Verify the network, destination, and amount before approving.

Manage assets with context

Your Lace wallet can display ADA and supported Cardano native tokens. A token name or symbol alone does not prove that an asset is genuine; different assets may use similar names. When exploring an unfamiliar token, check trusted project information and verify the asset identifier rather than relying on its appearance in a list.

Send and receive thoughtfully

For a receive, share only the public address needed for the transfer. Public addresses are designed to receive assets, while your recovery phrase and private signing approvals must remain private. Before sending, review the destination, network, and amount. Blockchain transfers are generally difficult or impossible to reverse, so pause if anything looks unexpected.

Connect to decentralized applications

A dApp may request a wallet connection or ask you to review a transaction. A connection does not mean you should approve every request. Read the permission details, understand what an action will do, and disconnect when you no longer need the session. If a request is confusing, decline it and seek information from the project's established support channels.

04 / SECURITY, WITHOUT SHORTCUTS

Your phrase is
your responsibility.

Lace will never need you to reveal your recovery phrase to provide ordinary support. Anyone who obtains it may be able to control the assets in your wallet.

01

Keep it offline

Store your written backup in a private, protected place. Consider a second secure location if you need a backup against loss or damage.

02

Share it with nobody

No person, website, or support representative should ask you to send your phrase. Treat any such request as a serious warning sign.

03

Review before approving

Read transaction details on your device. Never approve a request merely because a page says it is urgent or promises a reward.

04

Keep your software current

Install updates from trusted sources, protect your device with a passcode, and avoid wallet activity on devices you do not trust.

05 / PLAN FOR THE UNEXPECTED

Recovery starts
before you need it.

Your recovery phrase is the key to restoring access if your device is lost or replaced. Confirm that your written backup is legible and stored where you can reach it, without making it accessible to others. Do not test recovery by typing your phrase into an unfamiliar page or sharing it with a helper. If you ever need to restore a wallet, use only the verified Lace application and follow its current official guidance.

A password manager may help with ordinary account credentials, but a recovery phrase deserves a deliberate storage plan that accounts for both theft and physical loss. Tell a trusted person how to locate your emergency instructions if appropriate, without revealing the phrase itself.

06 / COMMON QUESTIONS

A few things worth
knowing.

Q / 01

Is Lace a custodial service?

Lace is designed as a self-custody wallet. You control your recovery phrase and should keep it secure. Always review current product details through official Lace resources.

Q / 02

Can I recover a wallet on a new device?

A properly backed-up recovery phrase is intended to restore wallet access in a compatible official wallet. Never enter it anywhere except the verified wallet recovery flow you initiated.

Q / 03

Why send a small test first?

A small transfer helps confirm you copied the right address and selected the correct network before you move a larger amount. Network fees and confirmation times can vary.

Q / 04

What if an offer feels urgent?

Pause. Urgency, guaranteed returns, and requests for secret information are common warning signs. Verify independently using trusted, official sources before taking action.
